#Janathon 2015 Day 13 – These Girls Can

It’s great to see eleven faces turning up to join in with my Run England group tonight, even with the temperature dropping and with the threat of snow.

It’s lovely to hear how their running is progressing and new targets and events they’re aiming for.

It’s inspiring to see the effort they put in, each and every session.

It’s rewarding to see them improve and achieve new things they thought weren’t possible.

It’s strange that the group is almost exclusively female.

Perhaps men are too stubborn to ask for help?  Maybe they feel embarrassed?  Or is it because they think they can do it on their own?  Who knows?  But what I do know is the ladies in my group have chosen to get active for all manner of reasons irrespective of their age, size and shape, which is fantastic.

And this leads me nicely into mentioning the Sport England campaign that has recently launched to encourage more women to get active.

Be inspired. Get active.
Be inspired. Get active.

The This Girl Can campaign is a celebration of active women up and down the country who are doing their thing no matter how well they do it, how they look or even how red their face gets.

The women in my group have all got their different stories of why they started running and also the stories of how it makes them feel great.

All I can say is, whether you’re a boy or a girl, don’t be shy and start being active now.  Anything is better than sitting on a couch.  You’ll meet like-minded people and you never know, you might enjoy it!
